چکیده

M. Górny, R. Dańko, M. Holtzer. AGH University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Foundry Engineering, Kraków, Poland This article addresses the effect of mold filling and wall thickness on the flake graphite layer in ductile iron. The research was conducted for castings with different wall thickness (3-8 mm) and using molding sand with furan resin. A thermal analysis has been performed along the length of the castings to determine the initial temperature of the metal in the mold cavity and the contact time of the liquid metal with the mold. Results demonstrated the strong influence of the temperature decrease of the metal in the mold cavity on the occurrence and the thickness of the flake graphite in the surface layer in ductile iron.

THE EFFECT OF HOLDING TIME ON TEMPERATURE EUTECTIC UNDERCOOLING IN DUCTLIE IRON

In the present research influences of different combinations of five types of inoculants and four types of nodularizers on eutectic nucleation in ductile cast iron were studied. The alloys were kept at 1320°C for 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 min under nitrogen atmosphere. Cooling curves and image analysis were used to characterize the influence of holding time and different combinations of inoculants an...

No-Bake S-Containing Mold-DI Metal Interactions: Consequences and Potential Application

The ductile iron liquid metal is very reactive with environmental gases and solid molds after a nodulizing treatment. Mold-metal reactions could alter the spheroidal graphite shape to vermicular or flake. In this research, the metal-mold reactions were enhanced by various sulfur additions to the no-bake mold inserts to study these phenomena and to artificially produce layered dual-graphite stru...
